– an artist talk by Chuyia Chia
In ‘A Thread of Red Between Us’, the artist becomes an agent interacting, connecting and threading together people from place to place. Different approaches are used, including observation and research, which permit understanding and sensitivity to different political, social and cultural contexts. This time-based project has accumulated people’s histories, emotions, sentiments and places. The project has travelled and connected people from Mexico, Italy, France, Sweden, Czech Republic and Cameroon.

About Chuyia Chia:
Chuyia Chia focuses on performative presentation in recent years. Her exploration intersects between painting, installation art, performance art, and digital representation. Her practice reflects on her cultural identity as an immigrant in the 90’s and on global environmental responsibility, human connection and communication. She initiated ComLab Sweden (Communication Laboratory) with Joakim Stampe in 2010. She actively participates in many international festivals and events, and collaborates extensively with other artists. Chuyia was recently resident artist in HIAP (Helsinki International Artist Residency Program) in Cable Factory in Finland. She participated in the Uprooted Fake Nations Festival of Live Arts in Suomenlinna Finland; the 7th Festival Préavis de désordre Urbain in Marseille, France; Lidköpings Kultur & Porslins Festival 2013, Sweden; Live Art Strömstad Sweden 2013; The 2nd Infra’ction Venezia 2013; My Earth Staglinec; Performance Art Festival in Koprivnica; and the Zagreb Croatia.
