I chose to make chickens because of our neighbours chickens wandering freely around the Independent Archive. Chickens in a city setting is a really strange thing. They are domestic yet wild, common yet foreign. Usually seen on a dinner plate, but now alive in Kampong Glam.

The chicken thus becomes in Singapore the primitive other that we cannot escape. That’s why I found it fitting to work them over in a Pollockian drip style.

The striking oil-based enamel paint heightens the alienness of the chicken in the Singaporean context. The act of splattering them adds another layer of meaning better left to your imagination. In sum, let’s make some drippy messy chickens.
